Burnley FC Women have edged closer to sealing promotion after a 3-2 win against Morecambe Ladies FC last weekend.

The win restored the Clarets nine-point advantage over title chasers Chester-le-Street Town. Both teams have three games remaining, so a single point is enough to seal a remarkable back to back promotion and lift the team into the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.

The team will be looking to secure the needed point as they travel to Crewe Alexandra Ladies FC this Sunday.

Burnley FC Women’s top goal scorer of the season, Sarah Greenhalgh said: “We are really looking forward to our away fixture at Crewe this weekend. The girls have been working hard in training and knowing that we’re only 1 point away from securing the league title is huge! It means so much to us all and we are going to tackle this game like every other – with grit, determination and desire to secure 3 points on Sunday.”

It’s been a phenomenal season for the Clarets who have held the top spot in the table since the end of September 2018, with the team having won 14 of their 19 league games so far.

A win on Sunday would see the side enjoy a second consecutive promotion in two years.

Next up Burnley FC Women play Crewe Alexandra Ladies FC on Sunday 14th April at the Cumberland Arena, Crewe, CW1 2BD. Kick-off is 2pm.
