Burnley FC Women’s Evie Priestley and Sarah Greenhalgh have both been nominated for awards at the upcoming North West Football Awards.
Women’s Rising Star – Evie Priestley
As one of the youngest players in the squad Evie had another solid 2018/19 season, finishing as one of the club’s highest goal scorers and scoring a hat trick in the promotion clinching game against Crewe Alexandra Women. The game ended 3-0 to Burnley FC Women.
With 27 appearances last season and 10 goals, Evie made her debut for the first team aged 17 and has gone from strength to strength and will be targeting another strong season this year.
Evie said: “I’m amazed to have been nominated for this award, and I’m really honoured to be among such great players! As a team we have done incredibly well over the past two years and have made a great start in this new league, and I feel privileged to be a part of it. I’m very grateful for the nomination and the support I receive, it means a lot.”
Women’s Player of the Year – Sarah Greenhalgh
Sarah had another strong 2018/19 campaign, finishing as Burnley FC Women’s top goal scorer across all competitions, with 24 goals in total and named opposition player of the match 7 times.
She led the line for the squad in a crucial campaign which saw the team achieve well above its means by securing a second successive league title and promotion into the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division, the third tier in the women’s football pyramid and the highest level the claret women have played at in their long history.
Sarah said: “It’s a huge achievement to be shortlisted alongside some incredibly talented footballers.”
Fans can now cast their votes ahead of the awards, which will be announced at a ceremony at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford on Monday 11th November.
