Fillies GFC U13s v Burnley FC Women U13s

Burnley FC Women U13s faced muddy and wet conditions as they played Fillies U13s.

Following a 1-2-4-2 formation with Jess in goal, Maya and Jorja at the back, Taylor and Sanya in centre midfield, Pippa on the left, Holly on the right and Maddie just in behind Esha.

The first key moment was when Burnley received their second corner of the game and Pippa played a deep ball into Sanya whose header was tipped into the crossbar by an athletic Fillies goalkeeper.

Fillies were strong and quick wide but both Holly and Pippa were fast to recover and prevented any possible counter attack.

Burnley were first to strike when Sanya worked a wonderful team goal into the back of the net…the ball came from Maya’s curled pass into Esha’s feet and then the lofted first time pass into Sanya’s path to slot home the first!

Burnley kept the pressure on and the Fillies goalkeeper made some good saves allowing Burnley to tot up a whopping 8 corners in the first half, but all were defended well.

Shortly before half time the score was 2-0 when Esha worked a lovely 2v1 chance and played it nicely past the oncoming goalkeeper.

The play between Burnley’s midfield and defence was frighteningly good with solid pairing Jorja and Maya acting as a claret and blue wall preventing any break through, with substitute Charlie blocking the passing lanes nicely and picking out wide players Pippa and Holly with well-placed passes.

Taylor captained the team well, commanding the back line and making sure there was fluid movement between centre midfield and forwards.

After half-time, straight from kick-off Fillies managed to worm in and out of a slightly unorganised back line and picked out their extremely clever footed number 10 who fired a goal back for the home side.

It wasn’t long before Burnley regained possession and looked to play in behind into the path of speedy forward Esha. A wonderful through ball from Jaden cut through the defence and landed right at her feet. Esha was able to place the shot wide of the keeper.

A fantastic game played by the young Clarets in grim Merseyside weather!

Special mention to Jess for keeping focus the entire game collecting crosses, coming of her line and sweeping and saving three 1v1 opportunities!

Player of the game goes to Holly for her tiresome efforts recovering and not allowing their number 6 and 10 to play!

Some excellent combination play from the whole team with passes in behind from Sanya, Taylor and Maya who were fantastic.

A top team performance and well-deserved win.

Burnley Women U16s vs Rossendale U16s

The girls played fantastic combination football around their defence and maintained possession of the ball really well as a team. The first 3 goals were all scored within 5 minutes.

Goals came from Ellie Stuart after a good cross from Grace, Becca scored a superb 40-yard goal after the keeper was caught off her line and Fran scored a great 1v1 past the keeper.

The goals kept on coming with a great header from Grace, as well as Neve scoring a brace after some good link up play. Becca scored the 7th after some good combination and link up play.

There was a great work ethic from the team against a good team. The work rate gave Burnley the platform to play some superb creative football.
