Burnley Women U16s v Lancaster Girls
The torrential rain didn’t stop the Burnley girls from putting on an amazing performance in the Lancashire FA County Youth Cup semi-final at the weekend.
It was a quiet first 20 minutes of the game as both teams were putting in good challenges and keeping the ball out of dangerous areas. Burnley’s Becca and Niamh did make an excellent combination to move the ball through their midfield, with Niamh taking a brilliant shot from outside the box and hitting the crossbar. However, the half time score was 0-0.
During the second half of the game the girls worked hard to challenge every ball. Lancaster had come back on with a new tactical plan, but this didn’t change how Burnley played.
Then, 20 minutes before the end of the game Becca made a strong run with the ball down the wing and cut inside Lancaster’s defence to shoot, finding the back of the net in the top corner to make the score 1-0 to Burnley.
Not long after the celebrations had stopped, Burnley continued as the ball was played into Grace for her to receive with her back turned to goal. She controlled it, turned and shot at goal to make it a brilliant 2-0 win for Burnley.
Every player on the pitch pulled together to play their part in the game and they got the job done and made it through to the final! Team Manager Becky Clough congratulated the players and was immensely proud of the team for their hard work and efforts.
