Burnley FC Women U12s v Haslingden Girls U12s
The League Cup match against Haslingden Girls U12s started as a bright encounter with both sides playing some attractive football early in the game.
However, Haslingden were the one to break the deadlock early on in the game making it 1-0.
It wasn’t long until the Clarets fought back to make it level terms 1-1, when Grace struck the ball from outside the box with her laces, unbalancing the goalkeeper to make a mistake.
The Haslingden Girls found themselves 2-1 up in the second half, it was fair to say the conditions were difficult for both teams.
As the match approached the last 10 minutes at the Prairie Sports Village, it was the Burnley FC girls who made the score-line level once again, this time from Player of the Match Melissa, who dropped her shoulder to cut inside and then accelerated through the Haslingden defence to make it 2-2 at full time.
A penalty shoot-out decided the game and it was Haslingden who were eventual winners, with the end result 4-2 on penalties.
Burnley FC Women U13s v Preston U13s
Burnley women Under 13s played Preston at the weekend in a well contested Lancashire Cup semi-final.
The fixture had been previously postponed three times, so it was proceedings got eagerly underway on a windy Saturday morning.
The first half was a tough battle with both teams performing physically and the wind blowing strong.
Preston took the lead on 20 minutes with clever combination play and a 1v1 finish from their number 10.
Shortly after, the ball was cleared off the line into the path of Preston’s number 8 who struck fantastically into the top right-hand corner of the goal to make it 2-0.
A couple of changes at the half for Burnley with Rebecca on the right and Pippa on the left working well with forwards Esha and Kacey.
Megan ran at pace down the wing and whipped a cross that was blocked out for a corner. The corner was taken perfectly, and Maddie poked the ball straight into the back of the net through the keeper’s legs to make it 2-1.
