A hard fought win against Sunderland AFC Ladies saw Burnley FC Women secure a place in the fourth round of the Women’s FA Cup, and a tie against Manchester United Women of the Women’s Super League.

The tie will be historic in Burnley FC Women history with the side the highest level of opposition Burnley women’s team have ever played.

It took extra time and penalties against league rivals Sunderland AFC Ladies, with Burnley FC Women Captain and Goalkeeper, Lauren Bracewell, saving 3 of the 4 Sunderland penalties in the shoot out.

Burnley FC Women Manager, Matt Bee said: “I’m immensely proud of everybody connected with the team. We weren’t at our best but we dug in for each other and our togetherness got us through.

“Sunday is a huge moment for this club, it shows our progress in such a short space of time, stepping out against a side like Manchester United Women. They are having a great season in the Super League so we know the task facing us. We have to seize this moment and attack it with no fear.”
