The Vitality Women’s FA Cup will resume in March, with the third and fourth round draws having been made.
Following the Government’s recent roadmap announcement which will see the safe return of grassroots football from 29th March, the FA have announced the 2020-21 Vitality Women’s FA Cup will recommence at the end of this month.
With restrictions due to be lifted, the FA have rescheduled the first four rounds of the competition – with one tie still to be played in the first round proper and 17 in the second-round proper, before the third and fourth rounds can be played.
Burnley FC Women will face league rivals AFC Fylde Women in the second round, at home at Padiham FC’s Arbories Memorial Sports Ground, on Sunday 4th April.
To ensure all clubs can plan and prepare for their upcoming ties, the draws for the third and fourth rounds have been made, with the winner of the Clarets tie due to face Sunderland AFC Ladies or Sheffield FC Women in the third round proper, with the prospect of Manchester United Women of the Women’s Super League on the horizon in the fourth round.
Burnley FC Women Manager, Matt Bee said: “It’s positive news that the Women’s FA Cup will be resuming, and we can return to play. We’ve had some successful runs in the competition previously and in what has been a strange season it would be nice to focus on trying to achieve another one.
“It will obviously be a challenge given the amount of preparation time we will have, however I’m happy with the work we have put in place to keep the players engaged and sharp during lockdown.
“Ultimately, we have to attack the game in the same way that I always expect from the players and show the correct mentality.”
The rescheduled dates of the competition – subject to ongoing Government guidance, are as follows:
First round – 31 March 2021
Second round – 4 April 2021
Third round – 11 April 2021
Fourth round – 18 April 2021
