The latest from Burnley FC Women Defender, Vikki Eastwood.
It’s been an eventful first season in the National League Division One North, what are your feelings on the season so far?
I think we have had an unbelievable season so far, we always had confidence coming into the league and believed we would be able to compete well because we know Matt and his team always prepare and set us up well for every game. I don’t think we expected to be in the position we are now.
After a run of twelve consecutive league wins came a defeat to Bolton Wanderers and a tightly fought win against Norton & Stockton Ancients, how are you feeling at this point?
It’s a great achievement in any league to win 12 games back to back, we are very proud of our results this season. It was obviously disappointing to lose against Bolton but in fairness we didn’t perform well enough on the night to win the game. It was important we responded well against Norton to get another win, which thankfully we did.
The manager Matt Bee, places a lot of strategic emphasis on the team’s defensive structure, how would you describe your role in the squad?
We have done very well this season defensively. Matt does a fantastic job preparing and setting us up tactically for every game depending on the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses. As a team we all know our defensive roles and responsibilities and work hard collectively to try to keep clean sheets.
Are there any of the remaining games that you are particularly looking forward to?
I am looking forward to all the remaining games. It’s a very competitive league and they will all be tough games, so we need to make sure we are ready for each game and make sure we perform to get the results we need.
With six league games left, what are your aims for the squad for the rest of the season?
The aim is to take the last six games one game at a time and get as many points as we can to win the league. We know we are close but there is still a lot of work to be done between now and the end of the season. We have a squad that will not allow any complacency and we will continue to listen to our manager and work hard every training session and game to get the job done.
